Sugar Land Texas commercial and mixed-use project by Imperial Sugar is getting more clients to sign.

More retail tenants have signed onto Imperial Market, the 855,000-square-foot mixed-use development in Sugar Land that will incorporate the historic structures of the former Imperial Sugar refinery along Oyster Creek.

Among the new retailers are:

  • Schilleci’s New Orleans Kitchen, a New Orleans-inspired restaurant that has a location in The Woodlands

  • The Guild Bar, a high-end lounge

  • Mia Bella Trattoria, an Italian restaurant that has locations downtown, in Sugar Land and in Vintage Park

  • The Company Town, a coffee shop and cafe

  • Frost Gelato, a gelato shop

  • Vino & Vinyl, a wine bar and records lounge with a location in Missouri City

Geoffrey Jones and James Murnane of Imperial Market Development LLC are developing the $200 million project, which should break ground in September and deliver in late 2017, according to a Transwestern release. The project incudes 290,000 square feet of upscale retail space and 90,000 square feet of Class A office space. Transwestern's Nick Hernandez, Crystal Allen and Chace Henke will handle Imperial Market's retail leasing; Eric Anderson and Greg Tilton of Transwestern will market the office space. There's also a nine-screen Alamo Drafthouse theater opening in Imperial Market, which was announced in December 2015.

The 91-year-old, eight-story Char House will be renovated into a 185-room luxury boutique hotel, and the hotel's branding should be announced soon, according to a Transwestern release. When plans for Imperial Market first surfaced last summer, the hotel reportedly was expected to be an Aloft Hotel.

And The Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center, a sister to the Children’s Museum of Houston, has opened in Imperial Market. Once construction for Imperial Market is completed, the Discovery Center will build an outdoor playground dubbed PlayWorks on the center’s south side. The Sugar Land Visitor Center and Heritage Museum also is planned for Imperial Market.

Houston-based Johnson Development Corp. sold Murrane and Jones the 26-acre tract in June. Johnson Development is developing the Imperial master-planned community, which will include 274 luxury apartments developed by Houston-based Sueba USA Corp.
